The Earth Champions Program (ECP) is the signature youth environmental stewardship program of BYEI designed to equip aspiring change-makers of Bangladesh with environmental knowledge and leadership capacity to be an agent of change for a just and prosperous Bangladesh. This year, ECP aims to ensure the participation of the members from marginalized groups interested in advocating environmental justice.

Selected fellows will undergo a uniquely designed year-long curriculum, training, and mentorship on environmental stewardship.
Fellows will establish an Earth Club or Chapter at their respective institution and exercise leadership.
To implement the learnings, fellows will develop and execute Environmental Action Projects (EAP).
30-35 fellows will be selected competitively from all over Bangladesh.
5-day long residential Earth Camp will take place in early Janauary.
Online sessions to further deepen the knowledge on specific topics.
Fellows will work towards setting up an Earth Club or Chapter at a fellow’s respective institution. Fellows will receive funding, mentorship and guidance from BYEI in this process.
Fellows will identify an environmental problem in their communities, and will develop ideas and solutions to address it. With the developed ideas, fellows will design a project and will implement it.
Successful fellows (who meet all the requirements) will be recognised in a graduation ceremony and receive fellowship completion certificates.
Yes, third year university students are eligible to apply but for ECP 2024 cohort, preference will be given to first and second year university students while third year applicants may be considered for exceptional merit.
No. Students who passed their HSC/A Level/Alim or equivalent level but haven’t enrolled in a Bachelor’s program by the application deadline are not eligible to apply to ECP 2024. You can apply for ECP 2025.
For ECP 2022 cohort, BYEI will select 35-40 fellows competitively from all over the Bangladesh. We aim to select equal number of male and female fellows.
Yes. Each fellow will have to form an Earth Club or Chapter in their respective university/college after the successful completion of Earth Camp. If there is already an Earth Club at their respective institution, the active participation of the ECP fellows in the same is mandatory.
The total cost for the fellowship is about BDT 100,000 that includes tuition, food, accommodation, travel, field visits, grants for projects and club. The entire cost of the fellowship this year will be covered by generous scholarships from the BYEI with support from our lead sponsor Roots and other partners.
Fellows will receive grants to implement their project ideas and earth club formation but no money will be given for getting selected but all the expenses of the fellowship will be covered by BYEI.
The 5-day long Earth camp will take place in a residential setting in Bangladesh. Previous camps took place in Chattogram, Gazipur, Sylhet and Savar, Dhaka. The venue for 2024 will be informed to the selected fellows in December 2024.
Prospectively, the Earth Camp will be held in December 2024/January 2025. The exact dates will be communicated to the selected fellows later in early December.
Yes. Participation in the Earth Camp is mandatory, one can not graduate as ECP fellow without completing the camp.
The participants will be selected based on the written application, and an interview for the shortlisted candidates and further assessment maybe conducted as per the need. We are looking for young minds coming from diverse socio-economic background with the potential and motivation to take a stand for environmental and climate justice in Bangladesh.
Yes. On successful completion of the fellowship program, all the fellows will be recognised in a graduation ceremony.
No, the program will primarily be conducted in Bangla but where appropriate English will be used as well.
